Expanded vermiculite, at plant {AU}| | AusLCI, U

Unit process Australia v00.00.001

Translated name: Blähvermiculit, ab Werk Included processes: includes the raw material vermiculite, the transport to the finishing plant and some internal transports, the energy carrier, some packaging materials, the infrastructure and the emissions Remark: This inventory has been developed as part of the AusAgLCI initiative funded by a partnership of Australian Research and Development Corporations (RIRDC, CRDC, GRDC, SRDC, HAL, MLA, DA, FWPA) and Research Agencies (CSIRO, USQ and Q DAFF), with technical support from Life Cycle Strategies. More detail on inventory development can be found in the 'AusAgLCI Methodology for developing Life Cycle Inventory' documents located at www.auslci.alcas.asn.au. Vermiculite transportet by ship 13'500 km from South-Africa to Germany. It is expanded by the heat from light fuel oil in 5 – 8 s at 1250 – 1500 °C and then cooled immediately to 400 °C. Density of expanded vermiculite: 64 - 160 kg/m3; Geography: For some exchanges CH, RER, GLO, OCE and ZA modules have been used as proxy. Technology: Basic principle is a quick heating of the vermiculite flakes to high temperature followed by a quick cooling. The volume increase is 15 – 30 fold Version: 2.2 Synonyms: Blähglimmer Energy values: Undefined Production volume: unknown Local category: Mineralische Baustoffe Local subcategory: Zuschlags- Füllstoffe Source file: 00462.XML Record: Data entry by: Daniel Kellenberger Telephone: 0041 44 823 44 94; E-mail: empa@ecoinvent.org; Company: EMPA; Country: CH Generator: Generator/publicator: Daniel Kellenberger Telephone: 0041 44 823 44 94; E-mail: empa@ecoinvent.org; Company: EMPA; Country: CH
